Dave Gahan

British musician, the lead singer of the electronic group Depeche Mode since their formation in 1980. They were the first of the big electronic bands, basically a novelty act when they made their debut. They reached the top-10 in both the U.S. and their native England with their 1990 album, "Violator." The band is composed of Gahan, Martin Gore, songwriter and Alan Wilder, electronics, and Andrew Fletcher, who manages the business affairs of Depeche Mode Inc. An active drug abuser, Gahan entered hospital briefly in August 1995 after slashing his wrists in a suicide attempt. On 28 May 1996, he was arrested after being saved from death from an apparent overdose of cocaine in a Los Angeles hotel room. He pleaded not guilty at his hearing. Gahan married his second wife Joanne, the secretary of the band's fan club, in 1985: they had a son, Jack, in 1987 and divorced in 1991. Gahan has lived in New York City since 1997. He is married to his third wife, Greek-American actress and filmmaker Jennifer Sklias, with whom he has a daughter, Stella Rose (born in 1999), who is also a singer. He also adopted her son from a previous relationship.
